Habits of a Commoner

Thoughts of a commoner influenced by Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

It has been a month and a half in Indore. Enjoying the weather for the first time as showers in the early morning has cooled down the climate and the campus is just the right place for some introspection.

1. Be Proactive: Taking classes on how to solve 3*3*3 Rubik's cube.

Yes. I had learnt solving a Rubik's cube in the summer holidays of 1993 after I passed out of middle school. Though I thought it was a little complex, I was fortunate to have good teachers from my own family, who learnt to solve it much earlier in their childhood. I have offered to teach kids and elders how to solve the cube and make sometime for it every week. Hip Hip Hurray.

2. Begin with the End in Mind: How to get a makeover.

This is something I have always wanted to achieve learning how to put makeup. Since we have some residents who are quite experts in the field, I have found enough motivation to learn the art and get a makeover. Look for some updates in this category.

3.First Things First: I mean Food.

My culinary skills are being tested and believe me it is just even more challenging with limited kitchen facilities. A highly supporting immediate family and a very understanding and encouraging words from the spouse makes cooking more pleasurable. Some of the dishes that I tried this time are Besan laddu and kodbele, both being my favourite, got a big thumps up. Though it is hard to categorise what is important and urgent and what is not in terms of food, I am fortunate to have a caring, helpful and empathising husband.

4. Think Win-Win: 3 cheers to MR-01 residents

It is an absolutely wonderful community of married couples and kids. We have a group that encourages sharing and caring for a healthy campus family life. The kids are just so adorable that it makes life so much fun in the hostel. Starting from going grocery shopping to late night get-togethers, it feels well connected, entertaining and satisfying.

5. Seek First to Understand and Then Be Understood: Aha

The idea looks good after a peg of whisky. The art of business management education is yet to reach a level that is so selfless and understanding where one can feel they can give back to the society more than they can take more from it. The dilemma to understand or be understood is a test of time decided by the placements offered and monthly EMIs. Overall, the proposition is delusional.

6. Synergise: Weekend / Term-end Parties and events

The get-together of all participants and some of their families is a big hit. It is an event that all look forward to in order to bring back the sanity that is otherwise lost in what seems to be a never-ending saga of a student's life. From cultural events to dining and drinks is the order of the life of management executives.

7. Sharpen the Saw: From Yoga and Meditation to Gym and Sports Activities

The diverse group has made it possible to engage in activities that is self-sustaining. Renewing the energy levels is made easier like never before with wide a variety of options including gym, language learning, singing and dancing.

So far so good. This is a view of the commoner who is a witness to the crazy ongoings of the system called education and its effects on daily life. Hope you enjoyed the post. See you soon.
